Road Trip to Coorg - 24th April 2008
We planned for a trip to Madikeri(Coorg) from Bangalore. The proposed day was 24th April. We started from Bangalore at 2.30 PM( my advise is to start early... I will explain why later) on Swift VXI.The total distance is 260 KM from Bangalore to Madikeri. The road from Bangalore to Mysore is 4 laned and the drive is cool as usual.
We took diversion at around 10 KM from Srirangapattna(Ooty/Madikeri Bypass Road) and went to SH88 which leads to Madikeri.
The road from Mysore to Hunsur is good.Hunsur to Kushalnagar is also good. But the road from Kushalnagar to Shuntikuppe is terrible. This stretches around 15 KMs and you would feel why did I make this trip. But believe me, its worth the pain.Coorg is such a terrific place.
Places to Visit in Madikeri:
1.Talai Kaveri( Starting point of Kaveri River) - approximately 47 Kms from Madikeri Town. The road is awesome though small.I made it in 1 hour climbing uphills.
2.Abbe Falls - Inside a private estate, which has a hanging bridge as well. You got to come back to Mysore Highway road and take a diversion towards left(7kms inside).
3.Omkareshwara Temple - just 2 kms from Ciy Circle (GT Road Circle).
and a few other places.
Things to buy:
1 Honey
2.Spices
3.Coorg Wildlife Society stickers( This is available on the Mysore Highway Road, when coming back towards Mysore and before the left turn to Abbe Falls, there is a left turn which has a board stating "Coorg Wildlife Society".
Drive safe! Enjoy your stay! Plan for 2 days trip. You would enjoy the clean air and some Coorg Hospitality.
